Trails

Trail maps go here. Simply edit this page, add an image (make it small so it fits when you Insert it), and have it link to the original.

We also can Embed PDFs, which I do not personally love. This means we display the full PDF every time someone comes to this page, but shrink it. If you want this feature, by all means, click the Google button in the visual editor!

However, I recommend people take a screen shot of their map PDF via Windows Snip Tool (Win7 and Vista users) or some other means for all you other folks, upload a picture of a specific area that is the most popular. For example, your Main Town/Attraction, insert that image into the post (Click the Picture), then LINK IT to your PDF. Add a caption, click to view the full map, then insert it into the page (centered).

What else should you add?

Trail Grooming Schedules!
These do not need to waste space on a calendar unless you change them constantly. Simply let people know what loops you do, and approximately what time you do them.

Parking Info!
People should know where to park to access your trails! List your sponsoring businesses (and throw some businesses their way) in a brief manner, and if you are really feeling generous, either Add HTML Google Maps “Embedding” via the HTML editor, or, LINK to it by highlighting some text, selecting the link tool, then pasting the Google/Mapquest maps link you generated off their website. (Suggest clicking open in new window)

Where to Eat, Sleep, and What to Do!
Every club has at least one or two generous restaurant sponsors. Maybe a hotel. Maybe a day spa. Whoever they are, and whoever you have, you should briefly mention them on this page. If you are lucky enough to have someone donating, add them to this page.

Use the Visitor Tracking To Your Advantage!
Your can monitor your stats on this page, and use that info to help sell sponsorships. However, to keep people visiting this page, you HAVE to keep your Trail Conditions reports current, and post frequent updates

Note, your Sidebar Used to the right

By default, your website came with two sidebars that have different types of items on them. As you may have noticed the Maps, Trail Alerts, etc. This is the “TRAILS and WEATHER” Sidebar. (You also have a News & Info sidebar)

To change what Widgets (aka, Things) appear on This Sidebar, go into Appearence -> Widgets. Change things up. Often, sites come with the following in the Trails sidebar:

  • Category Posts: Trail Conditions (latest post)
  • Category Posts: News (last 3 posts)
  • Weather Widget – showing snowfall – change your state/settings if you need to

To learn more about widgets, please visit the help section. However, make sure your state is correct. We often default the weather Widgets to Minnesota. If it’s a one time request, and you are nervous about changing, email support and we would be glad to quick switch it for you.
